I have 6 hens ... 2 australorps, 2 buff orpingtons and 2 new hampshire reds
Great breeds to put in a mixed flock. I like seeing that you have put assertive equally-sized breeds together. So many chickeneers throw in gentle non-combative breeds like Silkies, Polish or EEs into their mixed heritage flocks and these less combative or smaller breeds can get bullied by the bigger assertive heritage breeds. We've had to re-home so many great heritage breeds like Leghorns and Marans but they became too aggressive, overly mean, or threw their heavier weight around after they passed their pullet stage and reached maturity - some really terrorized our gentle Silkies and Ameraucana. Now that we've researched the non-combative breeds and the assertive breeds we don't mix the two kinds any more, don't get any breeds over 5-lb on the average, and it makes a more equal/balanced pecking order in our backyard flock. I hear nothing but raves about Australorps, and many love their BOs (though they tend to be a broody bunch), and years ago I had a NHR who was a great layer, an independent survivor, a predator-savvy hen, and quickly bonded as a pet. You have a nice choice of breeds put together.
