I built this coop for my 8 hens out of 2x6 cedar boards from an old pool deck I tore down. It's built off the ground with wire under their roost so most of the poop falls through. Every couple of weeks or so I rack it up and add it to the garden. Works great.
It gets very hot here, so the big door can be left open, and the screen door used. We have lots of raccoons, skunks, opossums, coyotes, etc., so the best part of the coop in the ChickenGuard automatic pop door opener. It's light actuated so it closes the door a little after sundown, and opens it a little before sunup. Love it!

Great application of the ChickenGuard, so happy you love it! Nice coop!

New to the forum and a year into urban (chicago) chickenhood. Just thought I would show my coop as well. We started with a kit and realized it was too small, and we expanded our flock from 5 to ten, they are certainly addictive creatures. We have a red star, blk astrolorp, 2 EE, white polish, 1 Bantam EE, 4 bantam Cochins (incubated). Here is the before and after. Enjoy!

I love your large coop. Can you post a few more pictures or details about design and size? I'm looking at building my first coop :)

Hi folks! This is a coop in the side yard of my home in Sonoma, CA. It was built by bestcoops.com in Antioch, CA, who made some modifications for me

to his Welsummer coop design, namely adding an extra pop door and two small shed windows, which I purchased separately. The coop currently holds a mama Silkie, a Cream Legbar hen, and three Seramas who I think may all be roosters! I hope to end up with a flock of four hens, mostly bantam so they will tread lightly on my yard and gardens. The coop has good ventilation, is easy to clean, and roomily houses my one large fowl and four bantam birds.

My coop made from two metal sheds I got on Craigslist ($75 and free). I joined them together with a plastic 55-gal barrel that I cut the bottom out of. Sleeping qtrs on left, nesting on right. Total: 160 sq. ft.

Coop in back is my first homemade smaller one. Hens now use this as another nesting place. I use it for isolation if the need arises. Everything's connected by the run.
