Post Your Chocolates, Dun ,Khaki , Platinum Bird Pics

Since there are already other varieties that have more than one gene "recipe" to acquire the phenotype, and phenotype is what determines that variety, not genetic makeup, I really don't think APA or ABA will care at all.

Now khaki I see an issue with as it currently require a white crest...and I have NO intention of breeding a white crest into my khaki silkies.

I'm so excited!! We have Chocolate Orpington and Chocolate Wyandotte eggs on their way from Greenfire Farms. Chocolate is one of my FAVOURITE colors and I can't wait to see the cute chocolate chicks. :)

This year I plan on creating LF Dun Orpingtons, which will bring me to my eventual goal of a LF Khaki Orpington flock.

I don't like the hobby name Khaki though, but I don't think calling them homozygous Dun Orpingtons is very catch either...

I'll be using my LF BBS English Orpington flock to establish this new color line. I'm excited for Spring hatching!

Jeremy I just got a few english imports in in the bantams. Once they get a bit bigger and lay a few, I can send you a few eggs. I know it'd be a year before you could use them, but at least you'd be all orp that way, would just have to breed back up for size a little.

Dun bantams??? Or sex linked Choc bantams?

I've considered going the breeding Choc bantam to LF route but I honestly don't have the space to take on a project like that. I know of a few sources that have imported supposedly true LF Chocolates. I may get eggs/birds from them eventually. Or there are several folks who have been breeding up bantams and are probably pretty close at this point, that would be an option too. The only thing about the recently imported LF Chocs is their type doesn't seem that great. Breeding them to my BBS line should correct that issue though.

Anyways, I don't think I want to play with sex linked Choc though. I like the Dun gene, the way it behaves like Blue does. I've yet to see a Khaki bird in person but all of the pictures I've seen online have caught my eye. Plus I do like Platinum too. It won't be too hard to correct type on the outcross I plan on doing, plus skin color is the same and I'm hoping that the infusion of new blood will just boost vigor and etc. that much more in my flock.

Thank you very much for the offer though, I've honestly considered just keeping a small flock of Choc bantams for fun, I'll keep you in mind...

are u using the Cinnamon Sussex i have seen on eBay (i think from Paul's poultry) or is there solid dun Sussex hiding in the woodwork somewhere??? sorry to keep prying but i love the dun gene... right now i only have it in OEGB but i want it in other breeds to...

i love the idea of having a flock of solid blacks and then having flocks of dun/khaki birds and blue/splash birds u could have one breed and could have almost never ending genetic diversity... keep the black flock mostly pure... and then breed blue to splash and dun to khaki and black to black...u would never have to do any toe punching or other record keeping to tell the chicks apart... so u would have 3 family's of birds... then every 2 or 3 years u would use a black to khaki/splash to get an out cross... and every 4 or more years u could do a black to dun/blue to get an out cross for your blacks... i think u could keep this system going for a very long time without any inbreeding depression...

i would love to do this with Orp's or Marans and Amerucana's
You guessed it!

A friend of mine created a line of Sussex that carries the Dun gene, I plan on crossing them to my Orps to breed towards a self colored bird.
