It's a nice size. Our black star just laid her first egg, the first egg of our flock, and our first ever egg as chicken keepers.

Well, she's doing great so far. Six eggs in her first seven days of laying. Our black star just laid her first egg, the first egg of our flock, and our first ever egg as chicken keepers.
I wonder if that's because she's 22 weeks. I read a lot of folks getting their first eggs a month or more earlier. It's a nice size.![]()
I heard the whole flock going into egg song celebration so went out to see... Two small first eggs, looks like one girl struggled a bit. And a big oblong one that someone was holding in for awhile, lol, that might be a double yolker. She'll work all the kinks out soon.I have been cracking up over this anxiously awaited first egg

All signs point to it being from my Blue Copper Marans. She laid it on the roost bar and it’s obviously soft shelled, so she’s got some work to do but I’m proud of her ridiculous first egg nonetheless!
What kind of feed do you give her?My flock is on grower/all flock and has oyster shell available free choice. I haven’t seen her eat much of the oyster shell yet but I want to give her a chance before I switch to layer. I like the concept of a higher protein level feed and let them get their calcium on their own instead of using layer feed, but I’m not opposed to switching it it remains to be a problem. She'll work all the kinks out soon. What kind of feed do you give her?
