Our black star just laid her first egg, the first egg of our flock, and our first ever egg as chicken keepers.
Well, she's doing great so far. Six eggs in her first seven days of laying.
Eggs are in the carton in order they were laid, first egg on the top. All but today's egg were eaten before the picture.

We are excited to see what the rest of our mixed flock starts laying over the next couple months.

I have been cracking up over this anxiously awaited first egg 🤣

All signs point to it being from my Blue Copper Marans. She laid it on the roost bar and it’s obviously soft shelled, so she’s got some work to do but I’m proud of her ridiculous first egg nonetheless!
She'll work all the kinks out soon. :) What kind of feed do you give her?

My flock is on grower/all flock and has oyster shell available free choice. I haven’t seen her eat much of the oyster shell yet but I want to give her a chance before I switch to layer. I like the concept of a higher protein level feed and let them get their calcium on their own instead of using layer feed, but I’m not opposed to switching it it remains to be a problem.
