First egg came this afternoon! Not sure who laid it but I think it was eiher Rose, a Golden comet or Lucy, a production red. They are 15.5 weeks old today. Here it is to the left of a large egg. It look so perfect for a first egg. I'm doing the happy dance tonight!

Life is complete! Our first little brown egg is from our Delaware, Denyse. My husband found it in the run, on the sand. Then we noticed one of the Easter Eggers working in a nest, followed by a couple little eggs found on the coop floor, the 4th however was found in the nest! This is just too much fun! I love my garden, love my bees, love leaving Los Angeles behind and living in rural Missouri, but my chickens make me smile like a crazy person. Can we eat these eggs, or how long before we can?

It was 18 weeks today that our chicks were shipped. I've been keeping an eye on the nest boxes in the morning, but don't always peak around the corner where the feeder and waterer are hanging. I went back there this evening to shake the feeder and voilà, there were two brown eggs in the back of the coop. We have Golden Comets, Barred Plymouth Rocks and Brown Leghorns, so the eggs are most likely from the Golden Comets.

I have 14 chix that are 4 months old this week...4 of the chix are Rhode Island Reds and the 10 others are High Production Reds

Last evening as the chix free ranged in our backyard and around our pond, the four RI Reds stayed in and out the coop.. at one point I remember hearing a screech! Later when I went to close the coop and run doors for the night and count heads before retiring I found these 4 eggs in ONE of the 12 nesting boxes! All 4 of them must have taken turns laying their first eggs or they all piled on each other and used the same nesting box at the same time...but I really think they all took turns as I noticed the four coming in and out the coop and not being in the yard with the others free ranging .... The nesting box they used was clean and one that I had not seen any of them get in before...
This morning with the grand kids, we we break the eggs OR blow them out and see what we have !

Thank You BYCF for always being here for me

Oh, these were chix that I bought at a TRACTOR SUPPLY Store in Edmond, OK... all 14 of my Chickens lived and are VERY healthy and happy! They all let our 5 grandkids catch and hold them...they are pets as much as chickens can be...I LOVE them all!
