I have a couple of new ones for you today. Just got day old chicks, and my poodle went straight to mothering them. She has done this with newborn kittens that were abandoned, so why wouldn't I think she would be like that with baby chicks? It just melted my heart
This is my girl Rockstar with my first lot of home-hatched ducklings. Unfortunately while no one was home, she wanted to play with them and got too rough
I Have two dogs and my one just loves to help me with chicken chores. She is a pom mix and is great with them, In fact she will just let the hens walk right out of the hen house if I don't shut the door. She loves to watch the "babies"(eggs or chicks) while they are in the house. I can put her in with the babies in the brooder and she just sits there and watches. My Black Lab mix I really have to watch for she like to chase the chickens, I think it is to play but we just watch her close when she is out off her lead, and the chickens are out. I let her see the chicks under a watchful eye. I have a three legged cat that will just watch them here is a pic of him Dont have any of the dogs with the chickens, I seem to never have the camera with me at that time.
Miss Lily Girl (Redbone Coonhound mix) and daddy checking on the babies we hatched last summer
Most of the babies all grown up- she loves them. Follows them around, sniffing fluffy butts and snacking on whatever the chickens leave behind
lol She is great with them....
She was tied out in this picture- as she had just got caught running off to the neighbors. All the free ranging chickens came to say hello and snack near her lol
I do have to say though- although she is a beauty- my chickens listen to me better then she does lol
