This morning I went out to take hen saddles off a few of my girls & put clean ones one. I discovered poultry lice eggs & 1 poultry lice under one of the hen saddles. I checked that hen from top to bottom TWICE & she has no eggs or lice on her whatsoever. I still want to treat my entire flock just in case. There are so many opinions on what to use, I'm confused. Please help me.

Also, after researching poultry lice I won't be using hen saddles anymore. Poultry lice thrive in dark, warm, moist places & something like a hen saddle is the perfect place. Just look at the photo... my hen doesn't have one lice / egg on her. The infestation is JUST on the hen saddle!

Lice do not take blood meals, so I have found that the ivermectin products do not work. What I use is a horse product called Ultrashield. It is a combination of synthetic and natural products and has a 14 day hold time on the animal which kills any hatching lice after the initial application.

It is made by absorbine and is in a black bottle. You should be able to find it at most feed stores. I spray once under each wing, on the back of the neck and in the fluff of the butt.

Got it! Is there an egg withdrawal period? This product seems much easier to use as it's already in a spray can!

Thanks SO much!

Great! Thanks again!

BTW- I think some of my White Ams came from a breeder who got some of her birds from you. They're one of my fav breeds!
