PPBA Show in Stockton, CA in January?

OK Cheryl sent me a copy of the entry form, but still not sure I'm going to show.

Why????

If it isn't on a leash, I haven't shown it.

So do I walk them around a ring??

OK that was a joke.

If I was to do this, what is involved?

I think we need to share some cell #s so we can all find eachother. That or maybe buy some baseball caps with those foam chickens on top.

I vote cell #s

I'm going to be looking for Blue AMs and maybe a black.

Need LF Wellies but will settle for a new bantam roo.

Also need some Polish and d'Uccles (maybe)

Then it's BCMs all the way.

By all accounts, BCMs seem to be the "chicken to get" this year, and good ones can be tough to find. Everybody's after those lovely dark eggs (myself included!!). I'm getting my BCM hopefully in the next week or so, gotta call the lady that has her and see if she's ready to part with her yet. Getting 2 wellie chicks from HappyChooks, AND we have the little 3-egg bator coming tomorrow or the next day & I'll be setting 3 mystery eggs (mutt chickens, but they're fertile eggs & this is our first try so what the heck), plus I'm getting a minorca from Jeremy. Does that put us beyond our capacity?? Why, yes it does! BUT... fear not, for my good friend just bought a new coop, and I am inheriting her old one!!

Geeze, I sure do hope that country house we're waiting on comes through pretty soon. If not, PLEASE, somebody rent us a house, or at least a spot to set up a trailer/RV and a chicken coop. LOL!

BCM isthe craze right now, I have seen birds sell as high as $50 a pullet. I am glad I have 20 hens and 2 roos but need more new blood. I sell the eggs at farmers market for 8 bucks a dozen and they sell like hotcakes. I have a nice BD hen that I was going to show but she has an erradict temper in a cage maybe next year.

Do the cuckoo marans lay dark eggs like the BCMs and wheatens do? I thought they did, but I met a lady who has some CMs and they lay a medium cafe-brown egg with a few dark speckles. Is that just her birds, or is that the way they are? I s'pose I SHOULD ask this in the marans thread, but since there are so many marans-knowledgeable folk on this thread, I thought I'd ask y'all (can ya tell I spent some time living in Louisiana, y'all??? LOL).

The hatchery ones have eggs like what you saw...though some hatchery ones can be darker but good bred Cuckoos have eggs almost as dark as BCMs and you can improve them by using the darkest eggs of course you need to have some of them laying dark eggs here is a picture comparing

the 4 on the left are hatchery birds

black coppers are known to have the darker egg color of the breed, some blue copper have some dark eggs too. I strive for conformation than egg color, though my hens lay a #6-8 egg everyday. its hard to find good stock, i waited forever on tom culpeppers eggs and searched 2 years for show quality bev davis line.

Could really use some hand holding on showing my birds. What, if any supplies do I need, special feed...silk cloth?

I really want them to shine!

Chickee and I are getting a hotel room for the night of the 28th so we don't have to leave at 5 AM to get there on time. Anyone else going to be there the evening before and want to join us for a BYC dinner out somewhere?
