PPBA Stockton California show

Its an older, round metal model. I've got it heating up in my room right now. I got it from a CA chicken member.

Congrats Laurie!! Is that the one you told me I could have?

Very nice. I was looking around at the few but hesitated on buying anything for pretty much the same reasons as Enchanted. Rain finally stopped for a while so I've been able to get busy again. We are thinking about still holding off on an incubator for a while to have a broody hatch a few dark egg layers.

Congratulations Laurie! Sounds like there is some extra space at the motel.

Hi, Everyone!! I am finally getting caught up and I am the second from the left in our pic from Saturday

. I wish that I had thought to check this thread before we went to the show so that I would have had a better idea of who everyone is.... Didn't even think of it!! Laughed reading it tonight when I figured out who was who and wish that I hadn't been so distracted at the show so I could have met the rest of you. It was my first chicken show, too, and way too much to look at and retain, but oh so much FUN!!!!

Now the hard part...waiting a whole YEAR till the next one!! At least I will be better prepared by then and hopefully know more of you as well. What a fun group to be a part of....

Thanks for being so welcoming!!

Late post, but I've been recovering from the show (as well as going to classes)! I had such a wonderful time, it was great getting to meet everyone! The amount of birds at the show was absolutely amazing. I loved oogling all the different poultry and talking chickens with you great people.

I'm already looking forward to next year! This was so much fun. I love being surrounded by people who understand the love of chickens and can talk the talk.

In the picture, I'm in the blue shirt with long hair, holding the egg carton!

My seven chickens I brought home from the sales are settling in nicely. Beautiful chickens, I'm glad I got them although I went over my self-imposed limit.

I actually came home with nine, but I gave two to a friend of mine so my grand total is seven additions to the flock! I got:

Two bantam silver phoenix hens
A porcelain d'uccle
A brown red OEGB
A blue red OEGB
A splash OEGB (Why, yes, I do like OEGBs!)
A silver spangled hamburg

Two of the new OEGB are pullets, and they went in with my spangled OEGB cockerel who is almost exactly the same age as they are. I think they're helping him realize that he's a chicken, as he just crowed this morning for the first time!

My five other new girls are in quarantine for now in the dog kennel, and so far everyone seems very healthy and happy.

Laurieks, thank you for taking the serama eggs and let me know how they turn out! I've got five in the 'bator right now from the same parents, and they're about a week away from hatch day.

Ok, this is NUTS! One of the peeps I met at the show was Terry Reeder. He's a 30-year 4-H Leader/Jusge and Licensed ABA/APA Poultry Judge. He came up to me during the show and asked if I was related to the Ludlow that painted. Never heard of this before, so I did some Googling:

“J.W. Ludlow was an ornithological artist who apparently specialized in domestic birds. He illustrated several books published by Cassell and others between 1867 and 1886 on poultry and pigeons. His poultry illustrations are considered classics and are widely reproduced in posters today.”

You'd think that within the past 3 years of running this community someone would have pointed that out before now?

Crazy!

I posted here so as not to take this too off topic: https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=292610

That's cool, Rob!

I've been asked the same question multiple times about another famous bird man. I obviously won't state who due to not wanting to give out my name, but the few BYCers that know it know who I'm talking about!

BTW: my new scovy has already laid 2 eggs!

Eeek! I am late catching up. In the photo I'm the one on the floor on the far left -- black jacket, pink stripe in my hair.

I had a GREAT time at the show once again and meeting everyone! And I managed to escape without buying anything (whew!) except for a bunch of supplies. Next year I will have to plan my schedule better and not end up with a new hatch the week BEFORE the show.

Well, get this: The egg shells are so translucent and my LED flashlight so strong, I can actually partially candle them from outside of the bator! I shine the light at an angle and try to get it to hit the side of the egg just enough so we can kinda make out what is going on.

Well, last night we decided to do the real thing and 5 of the 7 were definitely developing very well (lots of veins and beating little hearts). Two weren't as developed and we thought were duds, but they still kinda look like something is going on!
