Prairie Bluebell Egger

We bought some PBB from Hoover’s a while ago. 10 hens and a roo. Only 3 hens survived. Lay pretty blue eggs. Other than Hoover’s, does anyone know where we could get a couple adult PBB Roos and laying hens?

Yup, each hatchery has their own "specialty" hybrids. Everyone seems to want the "blue" egg which is pretty but after just 7yrs of chickens have surmised it's not the color but the personality & production. Orpingtons are my favorite for personality but finding Leghorn mixes are great with production & size.

We finally got our blue/green eggs and I agree with you. They are beautiful but really the personality and level of production is more important. Luckily our Easter Egger has been producing her little eggs quite well and she’s a total sweetheart :love. I want an Orpington so bad! What sweet, pretty birds.

Yes, Orpingtons are the greatest however their broodiness I can do without having only 4 - 6 for eggs. EE's are great and colorful. Give her time, they start off "small" until their system gets into the routine. My WTB eggs started off smaller than the WTG but now 5mos into laying have noticed the size up to par.

I got to bluebells last year. They do have the most beautiful powder blue egg. Mine are smaller in size and completely gray they're really pretty The chicken in your picture looks a lot like the Easter Eggers I have. Minus the muffs. My friend also got some at the same time and hers were completely gray and one ended up being a rooster the only difference I noticed in him other than size was he got red blotches with his gray color
Do you have photos of your Prairie Bluebells? Mine is light gray, 4 weeks old.

I don't. I'll try to get some. Mine stayed the same lt gray she was as a chick. My friend ended up getting one that turned out to be a rooster and that one got some red feathers and it's just. I've heard other people say that about the bluebell roosters though

Wondering if my Hazel looks like a PBB to you that have them? She's definitely on the small side...have had many visitors refer to her as "scrawny." Very fast, good forager, very quiet bird. Thought Easter egger but I know this one came from Hoover's as well. She (I think it's a she) is a little over 4 months old, no eggs yet

It’s hard to tell, because they are both technically mixes, not actual breeds, and each chicken can look very different from the rest.
