I dont really get why theyre advocating hating your family? It makes no sense.... isnt God supposed to be loving and stuff? In that case i may as well just not forgive anyone ever...

My dear friends,
I humbly ask for your prayers as my community and surrounding communities were hit by a large tornado. My family was extremely lucky, as the tornado passed just a few hundred feet from our house. We only sustained minor damage and a tree landed just feet from our house. Others were not so fortunate. Entire houses destroyed, farms and grain bins demolished, and livelihoods greatly damaged. Fortunately, there are only reports of minor injuries and sadly one fatality. I ask that you keep everyone who have lost their homes and property in your prayers and especially that one family who has lost a loved one.

Are you referring to the passage in Luke?
"If anyone comes to me and does not hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be my disciple. My Aunt-in-Law has been through two tornados in Moore, Oklahoma. She survived in a closet, the only thing standing of her home was that closet.

Yeah that's the one but not really, i still dont get how the beginning is relevant or the very last sentence.
Unless it's basically just saying being willing to give up what you have for Jesus and not really literal? But even in that case, I still don't get why they say hate your family. Especially when the whole thing is kinda about respecting your family and parents and everything... and I thought hate was bad?

Hate is bad. Terribly horribly bad, I speakfrom experience.
The parable is basically trying to get across the point that we need to love God more than our families. We should love our family, but if the occasion ever does happen where we'd have to give up our family or say, denounce our faith, He would want us to give up our family.

Apparently this month is Bible appreciation month.
I think that He means to say that us Christians would be willing to give up everything including our family and our own life to follow him.
