Premature pekin ducks mating

So, we bought two pekin ducklings a few months back, and they’re almost four months old now. One is a female and the other is a male. We saw them mate two days ago (we think it was the first time) and they’ve mated two more times after that.
I’ve heard that most ducks start mating at around 5 months of age, so our two are like a month and a half early (if what I’ve heard is correct). I’ve also heard that we’re supposed to have 4 females and 1 male due to the male wanting to mate a lot more than the females do, but we only have one female.
So far he won’t force her to mate or anything like that when she doesn’t want to.

Im just asking about this because I want to know if we need to get another female, and also if it’s normal for them to be mating at around 3 and a half months of age.

Thanks in advance!
Here’s a funny story that has to do with my original message: Both of the ducks were sitting on my lap (it was a bit cramped but it was alright), and our male literally just stood up and tried to start mating with the female, ON MY LAP. I basically just picked both of them up in my arms and dropped them in a tub of water, because I am not gonna let them mate on top of me, that’s gross.

I’m not 100% sure what prompted his behaviour, but I think it was because I was petting her neck (she had lowered her head so I could stroke the entire length of her neck), so she was kinda in the mating pose that the females do. Anyways, I just thought I should share this because I found it quite amusing 😄

I found that a males urgency to mate is not only in the duck world!!!!!!!
I've been told that the ratio is 1 male to 10 females. (You don't want the male duck to get worn out) how true that is I don't know, but at our pond the Mallard male jumps on anything that's not nailed down!!!!!! Good Luck to you & yours.

That is amusing. The first time our ducks mated was when the female jumped in the large water dish/trough & that's all that took. My females are not very good at sitting on the eggs so I've been hatching them myself. Out of 54 colledted eggs so far I have 24 live hatchlings this year.
