Preparing to set call and pekin duck eggs! Hatch day should be March 4, 2021 if all goes well!

Pics
Ok it’s about 16 hours from when I did the first hole. I starting removing shell little by little and moistening the membrane. Looking good egg 6 (day 28) looks like it has absorbed most the veins from what I can see. I didn’t have any Vaseline on hand so I used coconut oil. I’ll try to pick some up for next time. Both still appear to be chewing so I’m waiting patiently. Took off work today for the occasion. ❤️ :pop

Well the little guy that never had shadowing, drawdown or anything passed away. I opened up the shell and it was a little black bibbed. There was a ton of amber fluid in his shell and it looked like he suffocated. He had really cool markings too. Poor baby Splash. :hit

On a brighter note the two I’ve been assisting are doing great! Absorbing a lot and peeping too! They both look like Black bibs too! ❤️ When should I assist more on those?

Well little Squeegee decided a couple of days ago that she didn’t want to be broody anymore. Her 2 eggs are on day 24 now so I stuck them in the incubator. I just candled through the air cell to see where they were at and one of them is shadowing! That little guy should hatch in a couple days!

Ok it’s been 18 hours since the safety hole. Here’s where we’re at. Should I proceed to remove more around the air cell? Also the one has a piece of membrane on top of its bill but I’m cautious to remove it because there are some veins around it. @shawluvsbirds @Pyxis
Egg 1 day 28 is first egg 2 day 27 is second. I don’t see many veins. Proceed?

This is where I get nervous trying to give advice. It's just too hard to judge from pics when to proceed.
Sometimes I just stick a q-tip in and try to gently stretch the membrane a little to get it off the eye or bill if I can't remove it yet.
