Preparing to set call and pekin duck eggs! Hatch day should be March 4, 2021 if all goes well!

Phoenix is 7 weeks. Gharth and Rex are 3 weeks old. My black bibbed has 8 ducklings that are also 3 weeks old. Rex is big, I’m assuming a little drake. He’s about the size of most of the bibbled’s babies. She has a couple that are smaller. Gharth is definitely much smaller, but seems to be doing fine.
And don’t be too jealous. Phoenix mostly doesn’t want me to touch her now, but she will let me scratch her chest when they lay down. Gharth runs from me but calms down if I catch her. Rex is most standoffish, but he actually let me pick him up last night without running from me. And I think they only want to come inside because the older group runs them off wherever they go, so they haven’t found a spot to call their own yet. But they will soon enough. So I’ll keep them friendly as long as I can. Lol

Gharth’s bill looks about the same. Her tongue looks partially hardened, like the sides that aren’t covered have sort of a scab/crusty spot. And she shoves food with one side, kinda diagonally instead of straight at the food. But it seems to work ok.
I took a couple videos, but as I was watching them back to see which to upload, I noticed some… well let’s just say I’m not sure what my husband was watching on tv, the audio was not kid friendly. I’ll get a new one and mute the tv.

On a happier note, Phoenix, Gharth and Rex are doing well. The other ducks shun them a little, and run them off, but they don’t seem to be hurting them. The trio still wants to come inside at night, and I can’t close the door on them. They come in and lay on an old rug until I go to bed, then they go into a big cardboard box to sleep. I let them out when I get up and they follow me outside until dark.

That is absolutely precious and heart warming! I wish my little Calls felt this way about me, but I'll keep trying. My big ducks, my Buff mostly, will follow me around. She thinks I'm the Queen of earthworms, crickets, and minnows, so in reality she's only following me in hopes of first dibs at the "good stuff". I'll take it as a win! It'd be impossible for me to deny them wanting to come inside at night. How old are these adorable duckies now? They grow up so fast! The rate that time flies by for me, I hate to blink.


I'm thinking that I was wrong about Tallulah. I haven't heard a quack and now believe I was mistaken. If that's the case, both of my grays are drakes. Lylah and Faith are quacking like their lives depend on it. I LOVE their quacks so much. I guess I'm waiting to see some green heads on Paisley and Tallulah. Anyone have any very similar sounding masculine names for them? Paisley seems to know his name but I'm really wierd in wanting to have names that are either gender neutral or specific towards their actual gender. I wasn't a fan of gender neutral names before but I LOVE the names that I read from y'all so now I'm all for it and a huge fan!

Regarding names. If Fishy Joe is a girl, she will remain Fishy Joe because she can't complain in a language that I can understand.

Ok here I am with some weird questions, please bare with me :

first of all, this is one of the drakes from Cami’s brood. It has the weirdest quack. I’ve been worried it might have a respiratory issue but that’s how it’s quack has sounded since it was little. Does he just have a weird quack? He is acting normal and has no other symptoms of anything. I’ve never heard a drake sound like this... to me he sounds like a chain smoker. It’s much louder in person.

And second is a total mystery: I was putting the ducks in tonight and I found a bone, yes a bone, inside of the run!!!!! I about had a heart attack! Panic set in and I started counting.... 1...2.........22. Phew, they were all there safe and sound. Which brings me to ask, is this a duck bone and how long do you think it has been there? It is hollow. I’m not missing any ducks and haven’t had any ever disappear. I’m baffled as to how it got there as well. The run is covered with a hardware cloth roof and they’re only in it during the day. I have set up my duck cam outside for the night to keep an eye out.
