Preserving Raw Eggs - Have you ever heard of this?

I have a friend that takes eggs, paints, and glazes them. She puts them on a shelf and after years the insides seem to be gone. The uncracked eggs dry up inside. She collect these, and teaches the craft in her crafts class. Have you ever heard of this?

Note: these are not Easter Eggs, but raw.
