$14.36 for unmedicated gamebird starter!
$12.50 Scratch. YIKES!!!!
I must admit in the summer months I do let my adult chickens free range, and cut their rations in half.
Something to consider if you have space to do so.
Doesn't help the baby chicks though, you still have to have their starter.
Feed has gone up here.
13.65 #75 sweet feed
12.95 #75 cracked corn
10.95 #50 layer pellets
13.95 #75 16% dairy
grass hay bale is 5.25
However, I did find 1000# grass hay rounds for 25 bucks.
If I buy at my local feed store I pay close to $17/50# bag. If I drive 70 miles to the closest WalMart, I can get scratch for just under $10 for 40#, and laying crumbles for about 10.50 for the same size.(that's all the feed they sell, so chick feed has to come from the regular feed store) I drive my CNG truck so it only costs me about $8 for the trip--so well worth it, and I buy ten or twelve bags at a time. I'm going through a 40# bag about every five days right now, and the new chicks haven't even arrived yet.
I've really got to start selling eggs to offset some of my feed costs. lol
I pay 14.95 for a 50# bag of Natural 20 layer crumbles. This has increased about $ 4. in the last 2 months. I was stunned at the increase.
I sell 5 dozen eggs a week at $4.00 a dozen which helps offset the cost of feed, scratch, medicine, straw, and anything else they need. I used to purchase leafy greens from the supermarket, now I grow lettuces, kale and chard in my garden for them.
