Price of hatching eggs, aka, Update: $ 1070.25 for 12 eggs on BYC

Sounds like lav. orps is just the new "breed to have". A year or so ago, it was the newer various colors of Marans. If I were interested in lav. orps., I'm guessing I could wait a few years and get them way cheaper. I may be wrong, though. ;-)

And I've spent $60 for a dozen eggs and she sent lots of extras. I think that was my most expensive. We won't talk about how much I've spent on actual birds, though, when you figure in shipping.

It isn't up to the Hinkles to do all the work, seriously!! Those who bought project eggs should be improving upon what they have, not expecting to have everything handed to them on a plate. The lesser ones are the only ones available in this case because the seller is more concerned about a quick buck.

And in a few years those project Orps would be really looked over and then compare with Jody's Lav Orps, who do you think will come out ahead????? You bet Jody would! Somehow later down the line of those project orps, the type will be unlike the Orp standard and therefore it would be lost and inconsisent in type and color if they are not too careful. I do not blame Jody for not selling the eggs for a little while, maybe a surprise here and there might work. It is alot of work for Jody and Charlie to get this far.

If I was to buy Lav Orps, want QUALITY and consisency, you bet Jody and Charlie's birds will fit the bill better than the other Lav breeders out there.

And no, I will not pay that much for eggs. Even for the bantam Welsummers.

I started a topic very similar to this one and wanted to add something to it but the topic was closed and locked up tight before I could. It got a little heated and off topic and I apologize if anyone was offended. It was not intended to go the way it did.This one is staying nice as it should be. I wanted to add that I do not know the Hinkjc people personally but I bought some Lav, split Orps eggs that hopefully originated from their project as I was told and I am very happy to start where I am and work on my project. When it is completed and I can offer some wonderful birds I will be proud to say where they originated from and also the breeder I purchased the eggs from as they have done work also. I have been on the the Hinkjc website and their birds are gorgeous. Probably some peoples projects end up straying from the original breeders intention as I have to admit mine might since I am a newbie in this area but am educating myself as much as possible and will offer my birds up for critique by these breeders before I use their name as the originating stock and I hope my birds will someday be as nice as theirs.

I googled lavender orpington and was amazed at the number of people working on this project, which is sorta what I expected. Sometimes we here on BYC get caught up in our own little world and forget their are people out their doing amazing things without BYC and even without the internet...GASP!

I also found a listing on egg bid from 2009 that sold lavender orpington eggs at almost $600 for 20 eggs, and the bid start was $170. How can a person control what others do or expect to on open auctions of eggs with NO contracts.

true fact:: those were 20+ live chicks

...not unhatched eggs...

yes many of folks with/working on them now, we made sure of that, hopefully some will better there stock going forward in the orpington breed, we are sure trying to..same goes for "our" large fowl lavender araucana project ..they are looking very impressive as well
