Great! Thanks for sharing. I'd love to hear how the milk starter turns out!

What kind of grinder do you use?

I use the kitchenAid grinder that hooks onto my mixer.
I found this site that has a lot of great recipes http://blog.culturedfoodlife.com/20...d-the-answer-to-so-many-problems.aspx?ref=rss There is even a kombuchu kefir float.

Is it the same grinder that you can use to grind meat? If so, I have that attachment already! I was planning on purchasing a dedicated grain grinder, but if that does a satisfactory job with grain then I'm all set!

Do you find it makes a fairly fine ground wheat flour? Have you tried it for corn?

I'm going to have to pull my grinder out and take a look at it...

Thanks! That site is great, by the way. I've been looking over it for a couple of days now. Lots of good information there!

It is NOT the same as the meat grinder. It is the grain mill http://www.amazon.com/KitchenAid-KG...P1V6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1295928328&sr=8-1

I have been jealous of the people being able to buy ready made kefir at the store. While I make my own, it would be nice to pick up a snack sometimes. Turns out here it is called Qephor. I guess CA likes to be fancy.

Miss Lydia,

home made kefir is thinner than store bought. If you would like to have it thicker, you will need to strain it. Place a clean cheese cloth in a colander (stainer) and place the colander over a bowl. Let sit until thickness desired is reached. What comes out is the whey. You can drink this or feed it to your animals. Don't waste it!!!
