an egg
My pullet is about to lay her first egg. She's in the nesting box right now! YAY!

BUT...The sun is going down!

Will she lay the egg? Please answer, time is ticking away!

sure, she may just sleep in the nest box. I would check on her to make sure she is doing on and then put her on the roost after she has laid it! good luck!

First egg can take them a while. If it is a normal sized egg as opposed to a fart egg, they are passing something waaaay bigger than they're used to (i.e. chicken waste). For example, my australorp laid her first, she took about three hours. I spent some of that time with her, since I thought it wouldn't take so long. After sitting with her for a half hour in the coop, I left and kept checking on her. On the last check, she laid the egg with me there, score!

SHE LAID IT!!!!!!! And she's 24 weeks old!!!

IT'S PERFECT!!! Here are some pictures!

GOOD GIRL BUFFS!

I wonder how many people have 'Buffy' the Buff Orphingtons. We should start a thread. "Post your Buffy's!" Here's mine. Congrats on the egg. Buffy is my favorite chicken based on personality and my least favorite based on hygene. She gets all the dingleberries and has to have a butt bath about every 8 weeks. She is the alpha of my flock.
