thank you! are you sure she's an easter egger? we don't really care what kind of breed she is but she was sold to us as an ameraucana and I'm curious.
She is definetly an Easter Egger. Hatcheries and Breeders will often call the Ameraucanas to make people think they are getting a purebred when they are just getting mutts.

yeah I've heard that before. I'm still not quite sure how to tell the difference. all our "ameraucanas" have muffs and beards, lay blue eggs, and have full tails and pea combs.

There are only 8 excepted colors of ameraucana, and ameraucanas have slate or black legs (not green). If you post pictures of your other girls we can help you fins out if they are ameraucanas or easter eggers. They also have pea combs on muffs and beards.

Please explain, it’s not easy to find info online about this other than info about chicks.
There are several threads here on BYC explaining the differences, but in general female EEs are found in a variety of partridge “wild type” color patterns. Males in general develop red patches on the shoulders. Males tend also to have less uniform coloring.😊

You can usually tell you got an Easter Egger if you paid less than $20!😊
oh hm interesting. we definitely didn't pay any more than 20$ for any of our chickens. we have a cochin, golden wyandotte, a buff orpington, and 4 ameraucanas/easter eggers. we paid around 5 dollars for each of the chicks. I didnt realize ameraucanas were so expensive!

Hatching eggs for Ameraucana run like.. $30-$40 bucks on Facebook, sometimes more depending on color. A started black Ameraucana pullet was around $25/30. Not a whole lot, but I think black Ameraucana are more common.
