Puppy may be poisoned!!! HELP PLEASE!!!!

It wouldn't do any good, I can go into more detail but I feel as though I keep going over the same things.

I understand you want to help the puppy but right now it's the waiting game. Shoving more things in the puppy can only cause more stress to the dog.

okay, well, I called the emergency vet center and they said we're looking at AT LEAST $500 to get this pup treated and stabilized, which isn't gonna happen. Bro's on his way back over right now, and we're gonna give her some juiced spinach and kale and some bentonite clay....Does anyone know of an herbal supplement that cleanses the blood??? I'm looking at info on burdock right now.....burdock is supposed to be a blood cleanser....I don't know what the heck to do, this is bro's g/f's pup and she'll freak if it dies!!!

...dogs cant have everything that we humans can have...can they have this clay stuff?...wont the vets give you ANY REAL things to do?...any advice?...please be careful of what you give that pup...best wishes..

the clay is a non-lethal remedy that animals in the wild have been known to consume on their own for stomach problems and illnesses, so that's safe. My mom is a health nut, and has been giving this stuff to her dogs for a while. I'm not sure about the burdock, though....which is what I'm looking up right now. I called the poison hotline (bless you, crazyhuhn!!!) and they told me that some of these poisons are designed to kill in multiple feedings, others are designed to remain in the system for a good month or so and can be lethal for up to 30 days.

So I know that she must have vitamin K, which would be from the spinach and kale, and she also needs something that will cleanse her blood.

Again...listen to the vet...

It is supposed to help with the anti-coagulant effects of rat poison.
Again timing is everything it should be given (injection NOT by feeding) within 3 hours of ingest.

Putting things into her body like natural health remedies is only going to do HARM because her body shouldn't try to cope with other things while fighting off the poison. You need to WAIT until the side effects become visible (if they do) so that you can give symptomatic treatment.

One way or another, even if she had been given something to make her throw up, the vet would have given her vitamin K. There are specific warnings on warafin patients' prescriptions cautioning against eating kale, spinach, and other leafy veggies because vit K is the 'antidote' to warafin. One way or another, giving her vit K will not harm her, the problem is not knowing how much to give. Because the actual vitamin (which can't be bought over the counter, BTW) is a more concentrated form it can be easily determined how much to give, but in our case (we just juiced a bunch of kale and spinach) we have no idea, so she may not be getting enough. Giving her too much is very unlikely, too little is the problem.

Does anyone wanna do some figuring for me??? It's 5am and I can't think anymore!!!

When a dog has Warafin poisoning, they administer 5mg of vit k intramuscularly. I know that what we're trying to do is no where near what a trained vet could do, but my brother is 19 and CAN'T pay $500 to the vet. Anyways, here's the link to the nutrition facts on kale:
http://www.eatingwell.com/news_views/nutrition_news/vitamin_k.html

It says that 1/2 cup of kale has 531mcg of vit k. We juiced the kale so now we have ML's (liquid). How many ml's would equal 1mg of vit K based on the nutrition facts from the website??? Anyone???

BTW, she's doing fine!!! She's running and playing and whatever, so I'm hoping we can get her through this next month okay. She won't be home free till 30 days from now, so everyone say a prayer!!!!

Under most circumstances I would agree, but in this case everyone I have spoken to has told me that if we wait till the symptoms appear it will be too late. At least this way maybe we have a chance of keeping her alive, it's either that or we take her to the vet on Monday and pay $35 to have her put down, which is the only thing my brother could afford. We have no $ either, we can't help him.
