Welp, for fun I gave my flock a purple cabbage on string to peck at. Now, their poop is BRIGHT blue.

Hahah, that must be alarming when you first see it!

When blackberries are in season my birds get quite a lot of them and it gives them pitch black poop.

The alarming part is that I saw in real time how much they poop! You dont really notice the brown poops so much because they could be there ages. The blue poop was undeniably fresh and suddenly blue EVERYWHERE.

I know this is like 2 years old, but I searched “purple cabbage” bc I too experience the bright blue/green poop and was like humph, didn’t realize it would turn it *that* color! And yes, there was a lot! We only have 4 pullets, but they’ve been cooped up (literally) for days due to snow/below freezing temps. Hence the purple cabbage (I hung it like a piñata for them)

Isn't that quite fun! I remember the first time I gave our chooks purple cabbage slaw, they didn't seem to be too interested. And when I went back to check them a couple hours later, the grass was scattered with all the greenish blue poop here and there! And then I noticed the cabbage slices were no where to be seen. Quite impressed by how fast their metabolism works!

I just tried to give our chicks purple cabbage but no one would eat it 🤷🏻‍♀️
