So it's a bit of a story...
The flock of 17 decided to attack one of my older Mistral Gree/barred rock hens along with her matching sister Beth. They pecked the older hen (Chanty)'s eye out. They gave Beth a few cuts but nothing like poor Chanty. Anyways I took care of Chanty and she recovered. Her and Beth live in a dog crate inside the coop with a seperated little pen made of chicken wire. Because we live in a very cold climate I put them in a smaller crate inside the coop at night so they can stay warmer. It's been working OK, but yesterday morning when I went to put them in their big pen, Beth's vent was entirely covered in poop, puss and blood and it was disgusting. I cleaned it off with a cloth soaked in warm water and underneath the vent was a lot of puss that I couldn't get off so I put some kid's polysporin on that to ward off infection is there was any (might not have been the smartest thing now I see:th). Then, I put her back in the crate with her buddy (who doesn't peck at the other birds). She stayed in the crate all day (very unusual) and when I went to put her in for the night her face and comb was looking blue. It wasn't from the cold as her buddy was perfectly fine.
She's been pooping but she has to do this exageratted movement before she can poop (to crack the stuff over her butt). I brought her inside and she looked a bit better. We gave her some crushed up eggshells for calcium and she ate it.
Lastly, when she sort of blinks her vent (I can't really explain it) it's all red and actually looks split.
She stinks like dead mice and is trembling.

Some one please help us:hitI don't know what's wrong:confused::th:he

I would definitely quarantine her and clean All poop off of her. If something like puss is "stuck" on her then maybe try soaking her in warm water so you can see whats going on. Bad smell, puss my guess is some kind of infection maybe a cyst???
Again I'm just guessing and making suggestions. Good luck

Thanks. I tried cleaning it all off but it's really hard and painful for her. The poop isn't blocking her vent and it's mostly puss/blood/poop combination. She is still pooping and drinking/eating.

can you take her to a vet?

can you post a photo?
how old is she?

can you get her inside and warm? sick birds like to be about 80-85*

She has been inside overnight. She is quite old probably around 7. It does seem like an infection or cyst. Would oral antibiotics help or should she be culled?

She really needs to have the mass of poop removed from her skin or it will cause further irritation. I would give her a long soak in warm soapy water. Put on a disposable glove, and massage the area to get all the pus, blood, gunk off. Check inside the vent with a finger for anything else that needs to come out. Then lube her vent area again with the ointment. Trim slightly any excess feathers that will catch the droppings. She could be extremely stressed, but the droppings could also be caused by an intestinal infection or even cancer. A vet could do a fecal test on fresh droppings to look for worms, coccidia, or a gram stain for bacteria.

Do you see any maggots? Eggcessive is right, you need to soak her in warm epsom salt bath for 20 minutes or so...most birds actually love this and I've had them fall asleep in the sink to where I had to support their head. Once she's thoroughly cleaned, check closely for any maggots, any stuck egg in her vent. It may be wise to get her on antibiotics and I would agree to have a vet to a fecal float. $40 can buy a wealth of knowledge as to what may be ailing your hen.
