I'm sure she does something like that already. I was just wondering since the chickens can likely hop onto the bucket and snack freely if the dog feeder would work :)
I've heard of "bird proof" rubber flaps to put over horse buckets to keep birds out of the feed. I think an emu would be able to nose the flap up to eat like a horse would.

Well if they could do that they could definitely push in the plastic flap on a dog feeder. I think I might try one of these for geese that I will hopefully be getting first of the year.
 
Right now the bucket is just hanging from a screw, lol. I just move it up as they grow. So far the chickens haven't jumped up to eat from it, and when the brahmas are fully grown, I'm sure they'll be too heavy to be able to jump up to it. The emus are taller than the geese now, so soon I should be able to raise the bucket high enough that they can't reach it either.
