I assume anything in the nightshade family (tomatoes, tomatillos) is off limits though, correct?

As far as I know, it's the plants themselves that are off limits—the fruit is safe as long as it's ripe.

Mine are picky! They have definite favorites: lemon balm, parsley, and dill are their favorite greens, also elm leaves, and spinach, lettuce.
Fruit they love! mangos , pineapple, tomatos,
Other things they like are dry alfalfa, rolled oats, MEALWORMS, scrambled or chopped boiled eggs, and I try lots of other stuff, (which is frequently rejected as they hope for a favorite one) all in small amount of course , since they dont eat much and treats should only be 10 percent of their diet.

They also love crickets and a bit of tangerines (flung them around like the fruit was wild prey...). Sometimes I give them some millet and spinach.
