quail tractors

Move your tractor daily as the ammonia smell builds up very fast and will burn grass.
How long can you get away with leaving it in one place before the grass burns?

I'm doing the tractor method with 6 quails but my problem is my backyard is very small and exposed. Only a few areas get shaded and the sun is really strong so I'm basically limited to the edges otherwise they will get a full day of 45oC sun.

I definitely know what you mean about the ammonia smell though, it's irritating to the nose if I get too close.

My tractor has an inside part with a roof that has mesh on the bottom, I use deep litter in there to deal with some of waste. The outside part which is larger has no mesh on the bottom.

Quail tractor people, is there any way you can trick the qauil to lay in a box rather than on the grass?

I am just about done with my first tractor. Mostly made from scraps around the house.

This is super cute!

Interesting thread. I'm new to quail, but I'm going to build a tractor soon from ht pallets.. Because I live in milder climate winters and the outskirts of the , I do not have to worry about as many predators and winter freezes..

That being said I would love to see pictures of everyone's setup for ideas. :D

i was watching a youtube video about that.. quails kinda treat there eggs like poo it's funny.. but they had quails raised by a chicken to start off with and started breeding those.. in a green house i found it so interesting. the issue is that quails have been breed to produce eggs like poo but not to raise chics

also im told.. that u have to make the quail box look like it would be a good place to sit which is different then the way a chicken might think it's a good place.. )over head coverage) hanging branches.. cover..

i havent got it to work cos well we ate our quails lol ive never got a chance to breed a line.. id want to commit the time to do it which requires observation

watch out with pallets i usta think it was a good source of wood but i found out that they spray them with a lot of stuff.. the wood..

that's so cool.. did u get eggs? did it work?

Thanks, I have 6 hens and 2 cocks. The tractor is on blocks right now because I have 18" of snow outside. I added artificial light about 2 weeks ago so I hope I will see eggs soon.
