Hey all,
I'm brand new to this and am in the process of completing my run area.
It'll be a 5 ft high by about 200 sq. ft. run, the coop is about 50 sq. ft.
The run is not topped off.
Question is, Will my rooster get out? What is the likelihood of my hens flying out?
The reason I ask is because my neighbor has chicken houses (about 6 of them) for Pilgrim Farms and my birds cannot step foot on his property. The Houses are about 200 to 300 feet away but our property line is only about 10 feet away from the coop.
Thanks in advance!
Bob

Some of it depends upon what kind of rooster you have. But yes, your rooster and hens will easily clear 5 feet. You definately need a cover, if only to keep predators out and your chickens in.

Do they have a tendency to "fly the coop"?
Are certain breed more apt to take off over the fence?
As you can tell I'm trying to avoid topping it:)

from the experience that i have had with chickens is...they will fly the coop eventually...best advice is top your run or else you will have dead chickens:thumbsup
