Question for sellers-do you replace eggs for bad hatches-when and why?

only have pics of the eggs in the box...all wrapped in 2 pieces of bubble wrap, one each way. I got 2 of these boxes from Gary(2 different times) and none even cracked....oh, and air cells intact....

eta- they were the heaviest boxes of eggs I ever got

If I ever have enough eggs to fill one of those boxes I am going to try it. Of course the box would have to be mixed as I don't have enough hens of any breed to fill that

Is that extra reinforcing cardboard in the box?

I did that once for someone who wanted 48 eggs and shipped. I got a note saying half of the eggs were smashed. I e-mailed back asking for a picture of the broken eggs. I never heard back. I did put cardboard between each row and each layer of eggs... hummm?

Just got a PM that 9 out of the 14 Faverolles eggs hatched and there is still some peeping going on in the incubator on day 23 so perhaps another couple will be strong enough to pop out. So our shipping method is working for some folks at least.

One breeder, it was a Faverolle breeder, she would wrap each egg with bubble wrap and then place them in the large flat egg carton that would fit inside the Priority box and tape them on the carton, peanut-ted the empty space, then put another flat egg carton ON top of the eggs and then tape it some more, and pack the rest of the empty space with peanuts.

Some will do it differently, like one of you did, I would wrap each one in bubble wrap, pack the empty spaces with peanuts OR shredded paper and away it goes. To this date, I have not had any broken or smashed or soiled eggs.

I usually dont ask for replacement eggs but Christie offered me another replacement of her Welsummer eggs and you bet I was pleasantly surprised and grateful in her kindness and I spoke highly of her for her Welsummers and the quality of the Welsummers too! I got two girls to be proud of! Thanks Christie for bringing Welsummers in my life and they sure to be a permanent breed in my flock.

I would pay $16 for overnight service. Maybe because Maine isn't so far away it was only $16. The box I sent the eggs in was pretty big too due to the inner styrofoam container. KLF73 and I are exchanging eggs and not charging each other so really, there are just shipping costs. I did it because araucana genetics are touble enough and I want the person getting eggs from me to have the best hatch possible.

I shipped a live bird (5 pound araucana cockerel) to down state New York for $25.25, and that was for overnight service. I am sure the rates vary depending on distance traveled. Some places may not be able to get overnight delivery due to remote local.

Asher,

If someone sent you eggs exactly the same way I did, with a space between each egg and padded in tissue I am surprised they broke. My double containers are very sturdy, ask KLF, I suspect your shipment was not the same. That is too bad because broken egg material taints the rest.
