Quiote for budgie parakeets

i think ive seen people use them for the more exotic hole nesting species like toucans and birds in the kingfisher/bee eater familly as well as hookbills

Growing up in South Texas so close to Mexico I thought it was a Mexican thing.. all birds I ever saw growing up had one.. and it was put in whole so that the birds would have to actually peck at it and carve out their nest.. now I bought a pair of budgie parakeets and I'm wondering if I can get them a regular nest...even though my grandma already bought me a quiote from mexico... I feel it's too much work for the birds..

you could give it shot and see what they do but ive seen the pre hollowed out logs before and the seem to use them if you want to play it safe get a nestbox as a just in case
