"I'm fairly impressed," Coldshard said. "You're the only one who helped me fight."
He walked away to nurse his wounds.

Morningpaw ignored Crowpaw's screeches of protest, hissing. She stumbled forward, pain searing through half her face. She crumbled to the ground, her vision distorted. She struggled, pushing herself up, hissing.

"Do you need help?" Coldshard asked. He would have expected congratulations himself, if he actually cared what others thought of him.

Morningpaw looked up at him. Blood stained half her face, her eye tightly shut. She pushed herself back up."I'm fine."She mumbled."You um...You fought really bravely out there, Coldshard."

"All in a days work for a ForestClan cat," Coldshard said, almost with contempt, but also almost with pride. But mostly just squashed emotion.
"Good to see you are ok. Normally I wouldn't give you attention, but everybody else fled like mousehearted, furbrained kittypets. Now, I must continue nursing my wounds." He licked himself without a single glance back at the female who was obviously way to young for him, which was like the first reason he held no attraction, or was that different clans. Ok, that was probably the first reason.

"Did you see Crowpaw's face when to said that?"Morningpaw meowed, a purr in her voice. She licked her paw, drawing it across her face. She winced, hitting the deep scratches over her eye. Slowly, she got the blood cleaned off. She managed to open her eye, and the let out a whimper."Coldshard...."She looked over at him."Are both my eyes open?"

Heronpaw hurriedly pushed through the bushes with a mouthful of herbs and cobwebs with bits of dried leaves stuck in them. She laid out goldenrod, marigold and dried oak leaf in front of Coldshard and Morningpaw, "It's not much, but I figured herbs would be more useful than my pathetic fighting skills."

Coldshard grabbed a few leaves and started chewing them into a poultice. "I bet Crowpaw didn't think to do that," he mumbled.
He spread them on his wounds.

"Shut it. Do you hear that?"A rustle came from the bushes surrounding, and a few more. Crowpaw flicked his ears, narrowing his eyes."Foxdung.....litterally! I know that scent, it's foxes!"He skidded away from the bushes, hissing.
If only like you could escape to the trees like with dogs. Foxes were tricky. They could climb. But not as well as any Forestclan cat. But what about the others? What about the one cat who kept him from aborting the mission, the medicine cat apprentice?
He would climb first, think later.
Coldshard hauled himself up the trunk onto a branch. An oak.
He climbed higher and higher. No fox could reach him here. He saw it stride into the clearing below.
"I'm up here! Does anyone need my help?" His voice quavered, he was unprepared to do heroic actions to save the young apprentices from other clans.
"As if I can climb!"Crowpaw spat, unsheathing his claws. Instead of thick, short claws, they where long, thin and sharp, never meant to use for climbing. He hissed at the fox, lashed out, slashing the russet red muzzle. Blood spattered from the foxes muzzle, the russet creature baring its teeth at the scrawny cat in front of him.

Morningpaw glanced at Coldshard. She should run for safety in the midst of the trees. But she couldn't leave another cat out there alone. She let out a loud yowl."Hey fleapelt! Over here!"She yowled to the fox. It pricked its ears, Snarling.
Morningpaw leapt, claws outstretched. She rested up on her hind legs, lashing out at the fox with practiced expertise.
A primal snarl roared in her throat, but was cut off with a deafening shriek. The fox at lunged forward, snapping and clawing at her eye. Half her face was bleeding, blood pooling on the ground.
Sparrowpaw spun around and lunged at the fox. But, she was too reckless and the fox lashed out at her, grabbing her scruff and throwing the apprentice into the side of a tree. Sparrowpaw tried to stand, but stumbled and fell. By the time her vision cleared enough for her to see, the fox was gone.

Sparrowpaw trotted over to them, trying very hard to hide her limp. "You're not fine." She mewed shortly. When Morningpaw opened her eyes, Sparrowpaw looked at her intently, then back to Coldshard.

"Oh, hello, Sparrowpaw," Coldshard said in a bored tone. "My gratitude for trying."

(His voice in my head right now is that prince from The Princess Bride)

Sparrowpaw squinted at him. "If you haven't noticed," she muttered, "I'm six moons old." She flattened her ears, inwardly hating that she hadn't been able to claw that fox's ears off.
