Raccoon Baiting

Whatever you use, make sure the coon can't reach the bait from outside the cage or all your efforts will be for naught. You might even have to enclose the bait end a little bit, especially if this coon has been trapped before.
X2. First time I set mine the coon pulled everything from the side (part of the chicken it killed night before) and dragged the trap through the woods.
@Sunny-Side Up , I put boards on the sides and a big rock on top. Racoon came back that same night. I just used some cooked leftover chicken that time.

I had to always secure a cat food or tuna can to the bottom of the trap or the raccoon could reach through the outside to get the food. I have used wire or a shoelace and 2 holes in the bottom of the can to secure it. Snickers bars cut up were favorites as well as tuna for me.

Thanks everyone for your help!! Look at what I found this morning...

I used marshmallows and eggs (a weird combination, but it worked).
I'll bait it again tonight in case there are more. Thanks again!

That looks like a pretty big coon... a good one to make go bye bye.... no offense but I think that one is kinda ugly too :lau Looks like it might have suffered some mange in the past, or just got a bargain haircut.

:gigYeah, I thought the same thing!

Use chicken bones. It's coming up killing them so it should draw it in there. Be careful though. If you have a muddy lawn, put the cage on a platform of some sort or that coon will push the cage down in the mud so the trap won't go off. Seen it happen with my own eyes. Coons are pretty smart.
