Raccoons

If you don't want the animal to suffer at all, use a 12 gauge shotgun with a closed choke. Use 00 buckshot. That way when you hit it you will bury it too.

if you catch any more,a .22lr will dispatch him just as easily.its a lot quieter and a lot cheaper than a .44 round too!

I was in Wally World last night looking at .22lr ammo. I bought some CCI Stingers, do you all think those would be effective? MiF

CCI Stingers are a bit "overkill" for dispatch of only a few inches away, 22 Shorts work just fine. CCI Stingers are good for Squirrels at 75 Yards head shots with the right rifle and rifleman.

Maybe I'll stop off at the local gun store. I don't think I have ever even SEEN a 22 short. MiF

An equivalent round is the CB Long, it's the same primer only but in a longer case that chambers better in some firearms. My Chipmunk rifle is a single shot bolt action that will chamber Shorts, Longs, and LongRifle. I originally purchased it years ago as a youth rifle for "elbow supervision" of my kids when they were just learning. They have since grown up and bought their own firearms, I still have a use for that "youth rifle"
