That is fantastic! ! A friend of mine who raised chickens in Africa would frequently put abandoned chicks under "teenagers" at night, and many of the teens adopted their new littles! Who says teenagers aren't good for something?!?!Thanks. It worked pretty well. I could watch them at their level before sticking my hand in, and then they didn't panic so badly lol! And it let them see out, and provided more light to them. I actually sold all 14 of those lavs this week, so its empty out there now. Hmmmm... lol!
Cute quick story, i still have a few babies with mommas that can't find their way up ladders at night. Went to put them up tonight and found 2 little OEGBs under the wings of a juvie pullet! She is only about 9 weeks old herself. It was the cutest thing.

"Barney purple" bwahahaha!Well they aren't Barney purple, but a beautiful light blueish lavender color.

This seems to be the year of the rooster.
Lav orps seem to take forever. Having more chicks at a time makes it easier. But when the boys' combs pop up, they are pretty obvious! It seems to happen overnight.![]()

Boy momma duck is giving you what for... LOL!ADORABLE! I love your broody twins there sharing the jobBoy momma duck is giving you what for... LOL!

So great!! I wonder what mamma duck was thinking when she left with the pipper still peeping? Guess the other 4 just couldn't wait. At any rate they are so adorable, and you still have green grass!! We aren't on irrigation, so the only things that are green right now are the lawn (haha - lawn, that's a good one...more like, what's left after the dog and chickens have dug around!!) and the areas around the bases of our fruit trees. It got really dry, really fast here. Praying wildfire season doesn't venture this direction (seems like all of California is on fire yet again), because we have several neighbors who did not mow the crazy tall grass on their properties. Ugh.Duckies!!!
I had to assist the last one. Momma left the nest and one had an external pip! Was still cheeping, so i assisted and it's in the brooder while it gets strong enough to see if momma will take it back. But her other 4 are doing great!
