I agree with hiding your coop at least from the street. I heard of a gal that had to get rid of her chickens because a neighbor saw her coop from his roof. I have mine in the far corner away from everyone else's house, behind a 6 ft stockade fence and under huge holly bushes. So no one can see my coop from their yards, or windows or roofs. I had to make it short and smallish. My neighbors are also OK with my girls. But, you know how everything is OK until it's not OK. I've had one neighbor tell me his wife heard my girls from an open upstairs window (he says it was not a problem). Also, you can not complain about anything now, because your neighbors will always have this over you (again it's all OK until it's not OK). I trapped a male feral cat that was beating up and injuring/biting my feral kitty (that is fixed). I couldn't call animal control to come get him. I had to take him in and I was a little nervous about it. I also trapped a young possum that was wanting to hang out in my yard, I couldn't call animal control, I released him in a park by a river. I will have to do a better job at not attracting predators. I have to avoid having anyone from the city come to my house. I feel a little vulnerable about the whole thing.
I'm also lucky that I have reasonable neighbors and my HOA president is also reasonable. But, if someone turned me in, there is nothing he could do for me. I would be just as heartbroken as all the other folks who had to surrender their girls.
