Up and at'um! at 4:30
The chicks are squared away, and not in the playpen, we'll see if the older hen can behave. My rooster has been great toward the chicks, better than the hens.
It is not cloudy, and that is a good thing, but it is only 41 out~~~~~~~~~~~

the babies are loose today, I pray it goes well. the Browns are fine, its the Reds and Whites that worry me I do have their food and water in the pen and the pen is propped up so they can go in and out.

My chicks are under mama, just hatched. At what age do you let them join the flock? They are in a coop and run that is built inside the main run so everyone sees everyone.
@Cryss I went back to see how it went with the now one year olds,
I did take them out to the run a few times starting at one week, page 22-24 shows how it went. This year I have Brow Leghorns that are 4 weeks old and 2Red Leghorns and 2Whiter Orpington that are 3 weeks old. It is a bit different this time. The Red LH's are a smaller chicken and cant quite jump up on to the lowered roost so I have made steps for them.

Your Mama hen will let you know when she wants off the nest full time, but she will want to sit on the chicks at least 2 week I would think before she is ready to take them out for a stroll, maybe after one week. But as long as she can get the chicks back to the nesting area, I would let her do what she wants , @LaFleche hatches I think and would know more than I
We took the other 11 chicks to our sons house yesterday & today I took the one week old chicks out to experience the other hens. The older hen pretty much ignored them after I first put them out. One did keep coming to see. The chicks made themselves right at home, scratching and dust bathing. I did pick up each older hen and held them in the brooder and let the chicks come close to them - All they wanted was out! they were not interested in the chicks. So, I dont think I will have a mamma hen like I did with the Buff Orpington.

I giggled a little when I read the title because just this morning my sister swore off ever getting leghorns again - in the past 15 hours, we had 3 escape artists. All different leghorn chicks(6weeks)! 😂 It was pretty funny

They are so smart, I have one that scoped out the brooder/XL dog crate on day 4 of its life, it was looking for a way to get out, Hahahahaha
