My grandkids did great babysitting yesterday. They took care of my Tony dog and watched over the chicks.
My grandaughter will be upset when she learns about the chicks that didn't make it. I decided to do that same as you. I cancelled my replacement order and got the refund. It looks like 2, and if I'm lucky all 3 of the male chicks will survive.

And just to make sure they had company I drove down to the Kelso Wilco and picked up two Rhode Island red pullet chicks this morning. New Hampshires and Rhode Island reds are very similar, so it should be a good fit.

Week two- is full view week. I set up the time-out cage and put chicken wire around it due to the chicks can fit through the slots.

Temp is 75 to 80 and they seem fine.

They're looking good! I ended up with two little cockerel chicks from the shipment I got a couple days ago. I'm glad I bought the two Rhode Island red pullets chicks to keep them company. All four seem to be healthy and are active.

One of the rooster chicks is bigger than the other and is more on top of the rooster wiring. He tut-tut-tuts for the chicks to come eat and he is more alert. The other just
Blends in with the pullets

Last night I took away the heat lamp but the chicks had the heating pad. They did great over night with the coop door closed and 14 hens to keep the coop heat up, the chicks did great!

I set the lamp on Sunday morning, I wanted them to be warm while I was at church.
After church I cleaned up the brooder. I let the chicks run loose.

All the chicks looked fine but after
I noticed the chubby rooster chick just wanting to sit. I hour ok, he’s just tired. But later he seamed to have a twitch.
He is sleeping a lot more than the other chicks. Still has a bit of a twitch. I gets up and drinks, he walks a bit off, but he is not right.
The chicks have fresh electrolyte water and the feed is full.
This is why I ordered two roosters

Well darn, I hope he comes around and gets better.
Boy the wind has just been howling all day—
I was just out checking on the chicks— the temp is fine, they are settling in for the night. They are up and down all night with the heat lamp on,, plump rooster is the same,,
I have them set up for the whole day tomorrow. I am taking the grandkids to the zoo and DH doesn’t know what to do with chicks,😊
🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

SO VERY THANKFUL!!!
I was gone all day yesterday, but I set the coop up for the day. Took all of the grandchildren and son /DIL to the Woodland Park Zoo.
Long day.
When I got home all the chicks were great, even little roo that was feeling off.
They all are at full speed ahead this morning. After Bible Study I think I will turn them loos in the coop only. We are back to our normal weather , @Smokerbill , rain.
I was hoping to get to some mowing but NOT today. I'll get mowing prep done. Pick up hoses ect... Maybe weed eat tomorrow and mow on firday or sat.
I do want to start letting them run - SUPPERVISED- the whole coop and run for a few hours a day. they older hens have no intrest in them and have seen them long enough to know they belong.
As I have found over the last 12yr's, keeping the older hens out of the chick feed is the only hard part.

I have multiple feeders I set up in different spots in the run that will have S&P chick start in them and grubs to distract the hens.

🤔 I wonder 🤔
if I can give the chicks a bit of grubs yet????
