Raising wildish chicks

I can’t post pictures yet.
Anyway this is how the story goes.
So I was going to a local town to buy some fish, and there is this 7-eleven I like stopping at on the way over. I like stopping there because there are these chickens running around that are mutts. The other day I saw what looked like a barred rock except it was yellow and black.
So anyway I stopped by there and I heard this chirping noise. I followed it and found four baby chicks that were abandoned. We would have just led them to a hen who has some chicks, except somebody walking by who lives in the neighborhood told us that they see them dead all the time. She has only ever seen one chick make it to adulthood. She has seen them run over by cars... so I scooped them up and have them under a heat light with a thermometer with chick feed and water. First time raising chicks.

That's so sad , where are you ?
I’m not sure they’d survive here very long with all the cats....

I am in California and the place was next to a highway in a big open area. Also the chickens were all pretty fat and happy, it looked like people fed them. I have a friend that has chickens and the local feed store was closed so I crushed up some chicken feed for them just to make do until I could buy some.

You could also crush up a hard boiled egg for them.

Here’s a picture. Two are whitish yellow with a few black spots and two are kind of chipmunk looking. They were with som socks that no longer fit me on the drive back.

Great that you rescued them! Do you have a plan for housing them at your place? Chicks grow very, very fast and are going to need a secure coop to live in. You have jumped in to this pretty quickly so having a plan for the next steps is going to be important to make sure that you don't end up with chickens you can't keep! Good luck!
