"As the midnight moon, was drifting through
The lazy sway of the trees
I saw the look in your eyes, lookin' into mine
Seeing what you wanted to see
Darlin' don't say a word, cause I already heard
What your body's sayin' to mine
I'm tired of fast moves
I've got a slow groove...
On my mind
I want a man with a slow hand
I want a lover with an easy touch
I want somebody who will spend some time
Not come and go in a heated rush
I want somebody who will understand
When it comes to love, I want a slow hand
On shadowed ground, with no one around
And a blanket of stars in our eyes
We are drifting free, like two lost leaves
On the crazy wind of the night
Darlin', don't say a word, 'cause I already heard
What your body's sayin' to mine
If I want it all night
You say it's alright
We got the time
'Cause I got a man with a slow hand
I got a lover with an easy touch
I found somebody who will spend some time
Not come and go in a heated rush
I found somebody who will understand
When it comes to love, I want a slow hand
If I want it all night
Please say it's alright
It's not a fast move
But a slow groove
On my mind
'Cause I got a man with a slow hand
I got a lover with an easy touch
I found somebody who will spend some time
Not come and go in a heated rush
I found somebody who will understand
When it comes to love, I want a slow hand

Yesterday morning my sister came with her trailer again. Rosie loaded into the trailer within minutes! She goes right in, but likes to turn and come back out, so we let her do this a few times, eventually she will not do it anymore. It's allowed so she doesn't get that "I'm trapped!" feeling. My sister's horse Sparky loads easily and already knows what to do, she has been hauled a lot of places over the past year.
We unloaded in the beach parking lot and kept them tied to the trailer for awhile. Its good to do this to teach patience. Rosie has not had much tying experience. Well, she got to watch trailers arrive, horses unload, get saddled and go for rides, then return, get unsaddled, load back up and leave. Very good experience for her. ( me too, as I was never a horse trailer person!)
I saddled Rosie, Sparky did not get saddled, and we walked them over the dune and to the waves. The waves were slightly bigger this day. Rosie did go in but she was not as calm at the beach this time. We practiced our turns and backing, and respecting my space. She wanted to step on me a few times.
There was a fort type thing built out of drift wood so we checked that out too. She thought it was scarey at first, but she's a brave girl.
Then my sister took Sparky back over the dune and to the trailer. Rosie is upset! Where's my friend!! I wanna go to!! No Rosie, you have to stay with me.
Anyway, that too, was a very good opportunity to work with her. We did start walking back towards the trail over the dune, but she had to keep her position behind me. This was NOT an easy task. It involved a lot of stopping and backing her up to get her back in her place. Like about every three steps! She wanted to run past me sooooooooooo bad. It's hard enough walking over those sand dunes, and than add a cranky horse! That you have to keep backing up, so you are going down the dune a little and then back up. Then two people were walking over the dune towards the beach, and Rosie decided to really take opportunity of that and try and run me over! She gave a little rear when I tried to back her and then bolted forward, trying to run over the top of me.
This is something she use to do a lot when I first got her, but I caught it in time and was able to correct her, and she went a little more smoothly the rest of the way over the dune.
So, back at the trailer, the horses got to spend more time tied to the trailer. We watched more trailers with horses come and go. So much excitement for Rosie. Sparky thought it all was quite boring and tried to just rest. My sister and I had a little food and drink. My sister wanted to try my saddle on her horse because her saddle and cinch is a little big for her horse. Her horse is 3 and smaller than Rosie. But my saddle fit her and so my sister road her around in the parking lot for a bit. Rosie was upset, but oh well, something she needs to learn. Then I got to ride Sparky, and I decided to go down the dirt road a little way. Rosie was back at the trailer having big fits. Sparky only wanted to go so far, and then tried to turn back. So we had to have a little argument for awhile, I finally got her to take a few more steps forward, then turned around and went back. Then my sister decided to ride Sparky some more and take her down the dirt road. Oh! Rosie is so upset, My buddy, my buddy, where is she? She's tied to the trailer but pacing and bucking and rearing in place, and kicking out. So I take the opportunity to teach another lesson. I stand on one side of her and when she tries to run in my direction and get her butt towards me as she turns away, no Rosie, no butt!! No Rosie, I am here, you can not run over me because you are upset!! So she gets the idea, and I go to the other side of her now and teach the same lesson. I'm not sure how much she weighs, I'm guessing 800 - 900 pounds, do not want to get trampled! Every time she stopped for a few seconds and stood still, I would praise her. She got to watch more horses return from the beach and load up and leave. Finally Sparky is back!!
A lady with kids came and wanted to let the kids pet Rosie, I said ok. It was their first time ever touching a horse!
So, now I am the one that has to load Rosie, my sister had been doing it for me, remember, I was never a trailer person before so was very unsure. But, I did it, got her loaded, let her retreat over and over. Even got her standing still in there and I went in and pet her. I took her out a couple times when she was standing still.
It was a very good day, this all took 6 hours, and yes, I forgot my sunblock. It may be taking a long time for me to get Rosie ready to ride, but that's ok, I guess you could say 'I have a slow hand!'
Tomorrow is dh's b-day so he bought his self a present, a 42" tv, and he's hooking it up to the stereo speakers. Today it will feel like we are at the nascar races live!
I was reading posts about people butchering their birds, building their coops, seeing pictures of people with mud and blood on their jeans, and I was thinking about my friends. I have city friends, country friends, parents and people who sneer at the idea of having children, atheist and theist, young and old the clean cut and the type of person you'd rather not have your parents meet as friends . . . all of them wonderful people in their own way, but there is one friend I have never been exposed to. I used to think they were in short supply, but this forum has proven me wrong.
I want a friend who would rather die than spend the five minutes it takes to put on make up, someone who can get dirt and who knows what else on them and not fell like they need to change clothes immediately, someone who can look at a chicken and go into ecstasy over how wonderful and gorgeous it is, but who can also look at a chicken and help me butcher it for food, and not find anything strange or repulsive about it. I want a person who willingly listens to my chicken talk . . . not only listens, but joins in.
This forum makes me hopeful I could one day meet someone like that . . . my SO comes close, but he will never develop the chicken obsessiveness I am capable of, and he finds nothing nastier than even a smidge of chicken poo on him . . . which is rather hilarious, actually.
Ah, well. I'm reading Mansfield Park by Jane Austin right now, and I gotta say, the "heroine" is the most sorry protagonist I have yet seen in a book. I keep hoping the author kills her off and finds a less mousy character to replace her with.
A line to the theme from Toy Story:
You gotta friend in me. You gotta friend in me. When the road looks rough ahead and you're miles and miles from your nice warm bed, you've gotta friend in me.
Dacjohns, how did your trip to Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons go?
I'm weeding my garden and watching the chickens dustbathe in the "uninhabited" part of it, while "water training" my cats not to stalk and eat them.
ETA: YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY BOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GREAT progress with Rosie!!!!!
