Sadly no... here in Michigan a home invader successfully sued the homeowner because his two guard dogs practically tore his arm off protecting the family. He pled down and got a commuted sentence, then 400,000 from the homeowners insurance company.

And further, the guys lawyer admitted if the homeowner would have shot him and killed him rather than used the Dobies, he wouldn't have had a case

Then I'm good because while my two pit bulls hide behind me for protection I'll have no choice but shoot

Well more correctly, you aim an inch from them so you "miss" on purpose. Mr. Saddi can explain how that feels, however he did learn that when I say "leave me alone right now" it isn't a passive/agressive ploy for attention. I do alot of utterly dangerious things, but i've years of practice and training.

Sadly all the focus seems to be used up during daily practice, i litterly walk into walls when not holding that level of focus.

you know, I never understood how you can be so precise with knife throwing and be sort of ... well...... a klutz in life?

it's ok hun.

hmmm, let me explain it this way...

You know that feeling you'd get out on patrol, when you know the poo's gonna go down any second now? And time seems to move slower, and you're aware of everything, each breath you take, your buddies breathing and each shifting just adds to the awareness? To do the knifework I do takes that level of focus, I'm not aiming at someone because I wish to harm them, instead i'm throwing deadly objects to my friends and family. There is no room for error, you do not miss, you do not drop and you do not break focus.

After keeping that level of awareness for an hour, my brain just fogs. I have most injuries when I'm not focused on the moment i'm in. (tonight without thinking i put my hand in the burner to retrieve a pea that slipped from the pot. Yes it was still on, and my right arm has less hair now).

yeah, I sort of forget to be polite when other folks seem to loose their common sense. Judges don't like ya talking to them like they're one of your kids who's just taken a cookie out of the jar well past bedtime.

Last night was the 1st time ever that DD(age 8) and I were home alone all night with no one else at the house. DH was on overnights and both teenage DS's were away.

If I had access to weapon that I could have handled, I would have had it loaded by the bed. I probably would have slept better.

One of my New Years resolutions is to be able to handle DH's guns safely and responsibly.

I would like to have a gun. I want to teach my kids about guns, and have them learn to use it in case I can't. Dh disagrees at this time. Even though we have a police station down the road it does not mean they can come rescue us if someone breaks in. You simply can not count on someone coming to the rescue. You have to be ready to take that role on yourself.

Ohio passed a law so that you no longer have to prove you were in danger,or that you were going to be attacked.Atleast that is how I think it is now. Before you had to prove that shooting someone was justified.

I remember a guy working here at my home was telling me his company was being sued by a burglar who cut himself while breaking into their office.I don't think he won,but just the fact that a burglar could sue was upsetting.

We have had problems in the city next to us with theives following people home;then they hold them up(with a gun) to get their car.How terrible for those people to go through that.It is just a matter of time before those theives graduate to the next level....they always do.

I hide my knives. To many stories where the knives were used on the homeowner.
