Those are some interesting points, Prettest Frog! I think your point about the limitations on freedom is important to consider when thinking about the pros and cons of allowing certain weapons to be accessable to everyone. It is always important to keep the impact of our laws and restrictions on not just the individual, but the society as a whole.

Tn has one of the strictest traning requiremens to get a carry permit. You have to take classes, pass an FBI check an get the local sherrifs ok. Florida is strict to. Buth will issue a nonresident carry permit. Those are the go to states if you need a permit that the most states will recognise.

Tn also has good open carry laws.

Just don't carry a baseball bat in your car for protection. I't against the law. the test for a permit is not hard, just common scence. and if you know how to shoot the test is not hard. so get a gun permit amd take the baseball bat out it will get you arrested, and a gun permit (and gun) won't marrie

If you choose to carry a bat, always keep a mitt and couple of balls in the car with you.

ETA: Regardless of your definition of a FREE country....my guns are LEGAL.

Actually there are very few wepons that are not legal in the US. Many require more permits an cant be carried on your person but you can have almost anything.

I don't carry concealed. I don't carry illegally. I do carry unloaded unconcealed in my vehicle...for now. Working on the permit, don't have it YET.

There has only been 1 crime that has ever been committed with a class 3 weapon (full auto, silencer/suppressor, SBR, etc.). Guess who committed that crime? It was a cop! Not a civilian. What a shame ... but it's true. Many, if not most, people do not have the slightest clue what a person has to go through in order to LEGALLY own a Class 3 weapon. They have to go through a local background check, a state check (professional photo and police figerprints), and finally an FBI check. Months later you're given approval (roughly 6 months or longer).

The fact is that there is NO justification for these gun laws, these ridiculous bans, or the mentality that GUNS are bad.

Some people have this misconception that "high caliber weapons" and full auto are at all in the same classification ... they are NOT. You can buy a high power rifle at most ANY sporting goods store.

Reread what the 2nd amendment of OUR Constitution states. Read the Constitution. States have the right to govern themselves however they see fit ... as long as the Federal government doesn't have a law regarding that specific matter.

I've noticed interesting things about the maturity level of folks who want to be allowed to own high-caliber and automatic weapons. Really doesn't help their case.

Frankly, I don't think anyone needs to own anything bigger than a 45, and in areas with a high concentration of people, I'd prefer it limited to a 22 or something with a good chance of being stopped by the average wall. I wouldn't ban ownership of anything bigger, cause people do leave cities to go shooting, but if you think you will need to fire the gun inside the city, I'd prefer you be using a lighter round. That's just being responsible and acknowledging the simple fact that you could miss, especially when shooting under stress.

Why would you want to own a weapon that can penetrate a house? I mean, yeah, cool, fancy, aren't you special, but that the hell happens if you MISS? Part of gun safety is knowing where your bullet is going to come to rest, and on a high caliber weapon that can GO THROUGH the target and quite possibly the wall behind it, that safety goes away.

But some people it seems won't be happy unless they have enough firepower to kill a bear without leaving enough remains for a DNA analysis to determine species.
