RANT!!! dead Lav silkie roo!! rant rant!!!

Yes my silkie lav roo! he is good to his hens and very protective-but he has never never tried to be mean to his "brother" His borther was so sweet and docile-never even tried to mate a hen. Now I am with these birds al weekend literally-I soend hours with them. Weeknights for an hour or two until they go to bed and get locked up. He just started withthis roo agression a few days ago-now he killed Im afriad hell hurt a hen now-all though hes always been very good with them most are bigger than him anyway:-(

I really am sick over this. If I do let him mate some of the girls it may be supervised the whole time! Just to make sure hes doing what he is now only good for!!! He follows me around I carryhim around all the time-he does his wing shuffle with me but hes so little I just laugh it off-not anymore:-(

I'm so sorry for your loss...I can't even imagine!!! I know how my daughter would react, so my heart breaks for your little girl.

Even with that...I personally would still use him for the breeding project. Keep him in a kennel or something if you don't trust him with your other birds, although I doubt he will treat hens the same way he treats another rooster. Personalities vary greatly with each individual bird, so I bet you could get some great offspring from him, and then GET RID OF HIM!

I think I will do just that with supervision though-Ill keep them together when Im around and seperate at night when I cant watch or listen!!! You know what he is so lucky I did not have my hand hatchet next to me-I serious-I would have swung that puppy hard!

Two roosters in a pen together, it's a natural territorial tendency. Sometimes you get lucky and the combination isn't lethal.

They will turn on each other to mate with hens! So sorry but it does happen.

Just because he doesn't get along with other roos doesn't mean he'll be nasty to the hens. I would never put another roo in with him though.

You may find it hard to even like him now given what he's done, and that may be more of a reason to rehome him.

I am so sorry! I can only imagine how you feel right now.

With all the trouble you have gone through to get them, I would go ahead and take that chance and breed him to your girls. Supervised. Then I would seperate him and incubate the eggs.
He may just be Alpha to the roos. And he wanted all the girls to himself.
When you have enough eggs to start a good breeding plan then you could either rehome or keep him in isolation (or cull)
