Rant: Plastic bags

Sometimes the stores ask me, sometimes they dont...
But we can ALWAYS use the bags... so i dont mind getting them..
BUt i can see if you dont need them how FAST they can start to pile up in the house,.

My county in California is trying to ban the plastic bags. Initially they were trying to ban both paper and plastic bags
People fought back so now it is just plastic bags. If I don't need or want a bag I don't take them. I have removed the articles from the bag and returned the bag. I am a devoted recycle person but I do use those plastic bags to pick up dog poop, clean kitty litter, line the trash cans, etc. If I don' have those bags I will have to buy something to use (probably a plastic bag). The re-usable bags in the store are a joke. I tried using them - they fall apart after just a few uses. They aren't made of real material, but something that just disintegrates. I have decided that I am giving my daughter's teachers bags that I have sewed that actually can be washed and reused - made out of real material. I have been comtemplating using a chicken appliqué. If it is suppose to be reusable make it actually reusable.

if I buy just a gallon of milk sometimes they ask me. It is better for you to state as your buying the item that you do not want it in the bag.

Funny that this came up.
I bought several items today that all could have fit into one little plastic bag. The problem was that one item was hardware, one was hygiene, one was a food product, one was a book, one was a gallon of milk and the last was a bag of ice.
The ice is already in a bag so I don't need another bag, right? Milk in a jug doesn't need a bag, right? Book, deodorant and yogurt cups could easily fit in one bag with the hinge package. Said as much to the cashier and she tells me that the "law" doesn't allow them to mix items in a bag.

So I leave the store with a hinge in a bag, deodorant in a bag with the book, 6 cups of yogurt in a bag, ice in 2 bags and the milk jug free and clear. Every item except the book was in its own package yet they all had to be bagged seperately. The bag of ice was double bagged. Are you kidding me?

I bought reusable bags, but sometimes I like plastic for use as home. I say don't wait just tell them what you want. I often help bag,and that sometimes spurs other customers to bag instead of waiting for the cashier to bag a cart load. I will put a lot of stuff unbagged right back into my cart. At aldis I just use their cardboard boxes to hold my stuff.

I read of some new reusuable bags having lead,so now I make sure a get SAFE cloth bags.Usually find them for pennies at the thirft store.

You could just tell them.
They are simply doing what they are trained to do

This.

If I'm buying something that I can just carry out of the store in my hand and I see the clerk reach for a bag, I just tell them "I don't need a bag".
