Rant: Plastic bags

Now that's just ridiculous.
My mother is currently working at a supermarket. I've watched her at the end of shift sometimes, every customer either only buys a couple of items and carries them to the car or comes armed with a hoard of reusable "green" bags. If only everyone was like that!

LOL! Who really wants to be left with the option to only buy a few items at a time? How much gas does it take those people to trek back to the grocery store every day? How much pollution?
Oy! One cannot over focus on one thing and expect everyone to comply. I have a problem with paper because of trees. I have a problem with cloth because of sanitation issues, and limit on items purchased at once. Personally, I think if everyone limited their shopping trips to once or twice a month, it would cut down on pollution.

Thats why people need to be left with choices... everyone needs to decide on their own way to help, and not keep it so one-sided. Different people can contribute in different ways, if they aren't handcuffed to someone elses way.

Actually, there are a few of us that it is easier to hold onto a bag with handles than to try to grasp a bag with just a little piece of loose bag at the top, such as the bags of potatoes, to try to hold onto. Sometimes my hands don't work too good and I am grateful for handles.

Walmart always toss products in the bags no matter what I buy or the size. Usually if its one thing I will tell them I don't need a bag. Some times they pull it out, and other times they look at me and have that look (like you couldn't have told me before I put it in there), so they get it out and put it on the flat top by the bags. Most grocery stores will ask if I want a bag if its one thing. I love the "Walmart" bags. Does any one else refer to them as "Walmart bags?" It doesnt matter what grocery store I got them at, I always refer to them as Walmart bags. They are so handy- I use them in the bathroom trash can, use them to take small things to the trash instead of wasting a big bag, if I have a few clothing items for donations I will use the "Walmart bags". They are very useful. I always think about recycling them at Walmart, but I am stingy and enjoy using them at home!

When I was in California over the summer they wanted to charge me like a dime a bag! Thats outrageous!!! Then they want you to bring the reusable garbage bags or something like that.

Not garage bags, if you look at the register most stores have bags with the stores name on them for sale at the register. If they wanted to charge you, chances are that was the law in that city. If you don't want to pay, you have to bring your own.

That's as bad a putting a gallon of milk in a bag. Hello? See the handle on the jug?

My pet peeves are the bags that would rip or tear at the sightest weight. Nothing worse getting them out of your car and your canned goods fell out from the bottom, scattering all over the driveway.

Yes I like them to pack away, like the others are saying, throw aways wastebaskets. Only the paper bags are for the recycle bin once the recycled items are in the bags, then the recycle truck will take them away.
