Has anybody said Duke's mayonnaise yet?

Among all of the other things listed, especially sweet tea and grits, is the honor that it is to stop on the side of the road to pay your respects to the passing of a life when a funeral procession is coming through.

Hey - We, Michiganders, stop for funeral processions, too!

I've been to Tennesee and Kentucky a few times, it is quite lovely. And I would like to thank North Carolina for the Avett Brothers -- oh, how I love them!

Michigan is pretty with all the four seasons but the winter season is just way too long. I totally agree with you. I grew up in the south and miss it very much so when you leave can I hitch a ride???

We probably won't be moving for awhile.. Need to save up money to do that and have kids in school.. Have a almost 18 year old and he is almost done but I also have a 8 year old and he has a ways to go yet ...

West Viginia seems very Southern to me from the couple of times I've been there.
Speaking for myself, I think the South would be proud to claim West Virginia-beautiful place, by the way.

Thank you! I think so too! I do believe most Yankees consider WV South, just not deep South.....

This is kinda funny, actually. How many people here knew that West Virginia, technically speaking, is actually illegal?

I am seriously not kidding. The Constitution forbids forming new states from existing states without the legislature's consent - but that's exactly what the Union did during The War.

It's a great way to start a conversation, lemme tell you. "Did you know that West Virginia is unconstitutional?" That gets people's attention real fast.

So that makes West Virginia Southern. Because it's technically Virginia. Try not to think too hard about that.

Gritsar, M'farmboy, and the absentee sirbirdaholic all live there. This thread is about reasons to leave the South, right?

It's March here in Kentucky and the horses have left the rolls of hay in favor of the new shoots of grass everywhere. Being from Wisconsin originally, I'm quite certain there won't be anything green there until May..at least
