How often will Welshies lay? Also, how well do they hold up in very hot temps? In the peak of summer it will get 100-103 here. Same question for Khaki Campbells.

They lay about 100 to 150 eggs a year. We don't usually get that hot here, but we occasionally have gotten into the hundreds, and the ducks just swim to cool off. Welshies were actually derived from the khaki campbell - the entire breed originated with two off-color khaki campbells.

KCs lay better, about 165 to 240 eggs a year. I've had them in the past. They're much more high strung than my WH are, but if you don't mind that, then they're an excellent choice for a breed that lays a lot of eggs.

I am in the Memphis area, we get that hot as well. My Khakis are fine and mostly sleep in the shade all day when it is hot. They are spoiled and like their pools freshly filled with cool water to swim (we do not have a pond). Otherwise, they prefer my in-ground pool which we battle over. At the moment I am winning that battle because I used their “nervousness” against them (a large, dog cone collar came after them when they were in the pool thanks to some fishing line run into the house). But, it is only a matter of time before they get over their fear.
As Pyxis said the Welsh Harlequins were bred from Khakis and I am sure they are nice birds -they are pretty! Had they been available locally I might have them instead right now. I don’t think you can go wrong with either.
