Red and inflamed eye

I really thought we were headed in the right direction with this eye thing. I now know that what is actually causing the swelling and blindness is an eye worm. Anybody ever here of such a thing. It started out with her eye having a frothy bubbly type of discharge and within 3 days it has her eye swollen shut and her beak out of alignment. She must not be eating much cause she is light as a feather( oops bad chicken lingo). When she tries to eat grass and greens, etc it just falls out of the side of her beak. I checked on her this morning and the whole side of her face is swollen. I found a video on you tube that showed how to check for an eye worm. I got my husband to help and with some persistence was able to see a pocket of pus and a round white worm under her third eyelid. I didn't even know they had a third eyelid! So great now I know what it is how do I get rid of it? I can't stand to hear her pitiful crying. I don't want to have to cull her if this is something that can be fixed. Any suggestions?

Well I finally got the swelling down in Suzie Q's eye to see what I was really dealing with. The VetRx helped some but didn't seem to kill the worm. I don't want to gross anyone out so if you have a weak stomach don't read the rest of this post. I was able to use the end of a q-tip to put the VetRx in the palate as instructed. Well yesterday when I pulled the q-tip out I sort of scooped it up through the slit. It was covered in very smelly, hard, orange, cottage cheese like stuff for lack of a better term. Last evening her eye looked fine except some bubbling which is what alerted us to the presence of the worm in the first place. So I thought great here we go again. When I let her out of her isolation pen to get some air and fresh green grass and bugs, I noticed a lot of heat on the right side of her face. So my husband wasn't home so here I go armed with a towel, gloves, cotton swabs that are damp to help clean up the outside of her face. I picked little Suzie Q up laid her down on the towel like a baby and swaddled her as tight as I could. I wasn't going to be beat by a 3 pound bird! I'm a Marine for goodness sakes! Well after all the prep it was a bit of a let down. I placed the damp cotton square against the outer edge of her eye. I just laid it there, I didn't put any pressure or anything but apparently the worm had heard it was messing with a Marine and it gave up! The biggest, most foul smelling ball of yellow something shot out of the corner of her eye like a cannonball with a mission! So this morning when I checked on her she looked back to her sassy self. I am pleased to report that the battle has been won with only one casualty-- the worm! Suzie Q is back in the pen with her 5 sisters and all are getting along just fine!
