My, what a great metaphor! Foxes are okay, as long as they're not messing up our friendly flock! Let 'em go somewhere else.

Oops, totally missed that outbreak!

Good thing, I've had a slap on the wrist for a PETA no no... so I can understand the communities frustration trying to control fire that should have never been lit.

I use to work as a bartender, standard rule..............never talk politics or religion. I have seen some nasty fights over them subjects. This same bar there was a national news story about with the same people that this thread is about. the bars name was Slaughterville. The name came from a family name of the town......not because it was a slaughter house. If ya want more of the story just google slaughterville. We all in the community just laughed.

They served the best grilled burgers in town.

This topic was borderline and so nobody that started a thread on it (other than those who did so knowing we had chosen to close them) is at fault for anything.

We sincerely hoped that the thread would remain civil and friendly. WE often watch these types of gray area threads (not entirely "PETA" and not entirely OK) to gauge how our community is doing with regard to civil / respectful discussions. If we see a relatively small percentage of members being the ones that are taking a topic "south" we will remove their posts and send warnings. If we see too many members are getting pulled south we'll remove it all together.

That's what happened here. We let it go on, did some editing / warning, but it still went south... quickly. So we made the decision on what was best for the community. Not always an easy decision, but almost always the right one.

Thanks again to all the supporting members and to our amazing Staff!!

Call me a suck-up if you must, and I have already been called that many times- along with a few other names......

Please, just read the Rules. The blue bar above has the link, and they are very clear. If you read those rules, and have doubts about what you're about to post, then don't post it.

I just wanted to thank all the moderators for all the hard work they all do. Not just keeping this wonderful forum civil, but also for the fun they create, the format of the entire forum, and the great information about chickens.

Thanks!!

I read the article in question today and aside from it making me really, really happy to now have my own happy and much loved egg machines, there just isn't much to say.

However, I do have an idea that mods can't ever hear the words "thank you" enough so add one more to the pile from me.

My question was if anyone practiced anything like this with their own flock for feed other animals. I didn't condone or condemn the practice.

It seemed like a reasonable question. I know many people eat chicken and even feed chicken to dogs. Some chickens are not big enough to throw on the rotisserie, though. What do people do with those? Are they thrown away after culling or do they use them to feed other animals (dogs and cats).
