I'm thinking about getting a snake. I don't know very much about them though so I thought I start here.
What would be a good breed?
Are they expensive to keep?
About how much space to they need?
Feeding (what/when/how)?
Anything else I should know?

Crickets are good Just put them in a zip lock bag with that calcium vitamin supplement and dust them like you are making fried chicken before you feed .

I just watched some videos by Snake Discovery.
It will really depend on how big and how long they live. I wouldn't want to get an animal that I cannot provide the best life and if I don't have space for a large cage I'll wait until I'm older and have my own house.

Today I went to a nature park with lots of birds of prey that were beautiful, but I went inside and they had a baby Rainbow Boa. I've always wanted a snake but seeing and holding him (the snake) made me want one even more.
Anyways, I was wondering if Rainbow Boas are good pets? I haven't been able to find a whole lot of info on them so they may not be good for beginners. I really do love their coloring and the rainbow shimmer they have (shimmer?).

I believe Brazilian rainbow boas require a slightly larger tank size and a higher humidity level than ball pythons, but according to my online searches, they can make good beginner snakes as well. I love their rainbow shimmer too! Personally, though, I prefer ball pythons because they come in so many colors and have a very nice facial expression.

My ball python is a coral glow / banana morph, which I like because it is bright-colored, easy to spot, and seems very friendly. Also the eye, being almost black on a yellow background, is very clearly defined.

Between heat and humidity, can they be out of their tank for long? I would love to have him/her hang out with me while I'm doing schoolwork, or reading, or even bring him/her with me places.

I believe you could ....I used to do my school work with mine around my neck . (dont have him any more , but he was the best ! He was a spider morph named twister !)

I don't know how long they can be out of their enclosure but my husband wears his snakes on his wrists (one at a time) while he watches movies, plays video games, the drive-thru. Best to just know your snake. DH has 3; two are very calm and 1 is very active; he doesn't take the active one out on drives due to the level of distraction but, the other 2 will stay put on his wrist with no problems. We got them as babies, too. We are still beginners but we've had a lot of luck with the ball-python.

The first ball-python he purchased for almost $400 (it's a baby albino), and he went snake crazy from there (much like chicken math). He bought 1 from Petco for $70, then he purchased 2 from separate sellers off a local buy/sell app but one of them, he bought for $50, turned out to be impacted and we couldn't find a vet for a reasonable price (almost $80-100 for an exam and xrays) so he surrendered it to the serpentarium (sp?).
Definitely learned a lot! Maintaining humidity can be a pain in the butt!

Now this is way past cool i love these guys !!!

We got him at Petco and he wasn't in the best shape. Half of his tail was torn off and he was the biggest in the tank. His tail bends at the bottom. He's getting a tank upgrade probably tomorrow or this weekend. My parents gave me back my fish tank and I'm using it for him because he's growing so fast.

He is coming along nice !!
