Ribh's D'Coopage

I like spring and autumn... our winters are super wet and the last few years we have had hot dry summers, forest fires and drought. I appreciate the rain, I just would rather not work outside in it, or in the blazing sun... I do early mornings and evenings in the summer. Usually cool showers, but we had been standing out in the rain for three hours, not particularly warm rain, but once you're soaked through... short of a wood stove a warm shower was very welcome!

Yep, we don’t get near as hot as anyone else here... but I quit at 30 degrees, and I don’t work in the sun. today we had torrential rains, good for the hay/pasture, but not so great for our Saturday market sales, and Andrew and I were soaked to the bones... happily warm and showered now, dinner is in the oven, and all is well.
No, I don't work in the sun either. I love the rain but once I get cold it's inside for me. :)

If it's too hot to eat, I'll just eat a pint of ice cream or such.
We consume a lot of frozen stuff & a lot of salads in summer.

I love the summer! And am a hermit in the winter! I do not do anything when it’s cold... in the the summer I stay out all day... I used to be the opposite... so it must be an age thing with me
And the hot showers... NEVER!! In the winter it’s just a warm shower and in the summer it’s a cool one... and never a long! I cannot stand hot water on my head! When I wash my hair the water has to be very cool.. even in the winter.
But I do still love to experience all seasons even though the cold hurts...
Nope. That I cannot do. :D We get terribly steamy in summer though & that is just nasty.

I'm a hermit in summer - can't take the heat or the strong sun. Had skin cancer surgery a few years ago(on tip of nose).
Ouch. Surgery on the nose is the worst! I had a couple cut out on my nose last year & they hurt the worst! I don't do well with needles anyway but those had me hyperventilating & sobbing for absolute ages. Nasty.

I'm an autumn person :) I love being snug when the wind's blowing and the rain's falling. Summers can be delightful, especially the evenings, but not when it's so hot the garden is burnt when I get home from work.

It's another wet day where i live, so I poked yesterday's coals and re-stoked the wood fire. Going to meet a friend to wander through the local market then settle down for a natter beside the fire :) The chooks have gone back in the coop to stay dry, sensible!
I'm with you! :) Autumn is my absolute favourite time of the year; Warm enough in the day to not need layers & layers of bulky clothing, cool enough @ night to enjoy a fire & snuggling under a doona. Bliss!

I don't appreciate the fire season, that's for sure & it's so dodgy on the island as we're out on a point & too easy to get cut off. Our running joke is: the sound of summer is the helicopter water bombing Minjerribah. It burns down one coast, turns round & burns up the other, then attempts to cross the swamps in the middle while showering live embers, ash & cinders on our heads. There's always a watch for spot fires when Minjerribah burns. And yes, the only time to work in summer is either early or late; any time the sun isn't!

I am of the serious opinion that my girls while away the night hours by holding poopathons ~ in which case the Favorelles win, hands down! There was an absolute mound under them yesterday.

I like a clean coop. I figure nothing likes living in its own excrement. @ this rate I can't miss more than 1 day but it becomes a massive chore because everyone wants to help & comment on operations instead of the 5 minute rake & toss it is meant to be. Everyone has an opinion ~ & not a very high one judging by the racket~ on how I go about things & of course I never do it quite right. The mulch has to be scratched & adjusted to satisfaction. The fresh water has to be taste tested. Each feed station has to be investigated in turn ~ you know, just in case someone is getting a better deal than they are. And all the while I am trying not to step on chooky heads, or drop poopy buckets on inquisitive beaks. Oh, & I am meant to carry on a conversation with everyone while doing this.

Yesterday I thought I'd beat the odds & put down food before starting my clean, but nope! What I was doing was far more interesting than food. That or those birds are just too well fed!

The rest of my day was spent crocheting like mad. I only have another 1/2 dozen squares to go & I can start the edging ~ which will go much faster~ & then its round up a dozen eggs & get the girl to pick up the lot. I like crocheting. It's like chook watching: a serene activity requiring very little thought. Better. It doesn't talk back. :D

Oh! I tried to take some photos yesterday. This is the best one. I couldn't get all three together :barnie even though I tried for a while! Mary looks quite purple, not sure why. Maybe the new feathers are doing something tricky with the light.

How is namaste goung? Should I be worried about those liquid poops?
Finally, finally, finally Namaste seems to have finished her molt! It has been a long hard haul but she is no longer feathering my yard, seems to be feathering out nicely & is starting to get her condition back though judging by the colour of her comb she is some way of laying again. She is gaining weight & her poops have returned to normal.
Watery poops seem to go with molting. I don't know why. So long as you have ruled out worms & lice/mites I wouldn't worry. If she has finished molting she will be gaining weight again & putting on condition & will soon be back to her happy Maryish self. :)

Oh, what beautiful chookies! Mary has a lovely sheen, just as she should with all those new feathers. Gorgeous patterning on Janet & Sandy is doing the photo bomb thing!:gig
